Below are videos and articles about oil not being a health food, I read/watched stuff like this over the years which I found to be informative but I didn't have much reaction to it. I still consumed oil and I still felt great.
Recently I decided to try cooking without oil for a while, it's been about 3 weeks now. My reason for wanting to try oil free cooking was for the calorie trade off.
The calories in 1 tablespoon of oil is about the same amount of calories in 2 apples.
I usually use 1-2 tablespoons of oil when I cook, and when I did the math for the amount of meals I cook per week I realized that was about 600-1100 calories worth of oil I was consuming.
This did not include the oil used to prepare foods when eating out at restaurants.
This did not include the foods that I was eating and preparing throughout the day.
This did not include prepackaged foods that had oil in the main ingredients.
This was only the calories from the oil that I put in the pot or pan... I had to think about that for a bit...and it encouraged me to be more open minded and try something different.
To make things clear: I am not against the use of cooking with oils and I am not saying that I will never cook with oil again. I do not know how long I plan to do this, I am just kinda going with the flow.
So far I like discovering new ways to prepare delicious meals without using oil. I also enjoy trading those oil calories for more nutrient dense/ high fiber options.
I do plan to make a video or two about my experiences not cooking with oil in the future.
Have you ever gone "oil free"?
Until next time...
